The Ocean Champagne Bar opens at The Legian, Bali in Seminyak

The Legian, Bali is a sophisticated beachfront hotel where both in-house and walk-in guests have long enjoyed the luxurious facilities on offer, indulging in the excellent selection of food and drinks created and served by the hotel’s outstanding culinary team.

The location is prime Seminyak beachfront. The style and ambience throughout the day and into the evening is perhaps best summed up as being nouveau Bali; a chic blend of contemporary elegance with more than a mere passing nod at the rich cultural heritage of the island.

The beachside centrepiece is the magnificent palm-fringed infinity pool, which during the day is a hub of sun-seeking relaxation, then becomes a magnet for sundowners seeking to enjoy Seminyak’s famous sunsets in their full glory. It is adjacent to this pool that The Legian, Bali has transformed one of its wonderful beachside pavilions into The Ocean Champagne Bar.

Relaxed and informal, the golden hours are naturally around sunset, when guests can indulge in a glass or two and revel in the amber glow and laidback musical vibe as the sun dips gently below the horizon. The chilled tunes are supplemented with live jazz every Wednesday and Sunday from 4.30PM until 7.30PM.

Champagne and canapés

The Ocean Champagne Bar has comfortable resort chic rattan seating complemented by outdoor shaded daybeds and a large wooden deck. Open from 10AM until 10PM daily, it is something a little different, more stylish than a beach bar but more relaxed than one would encounter in a city. Building upon the excellent food and beverage options, and taking full advantage of the sublime beachfront location, it is fair to say that The Legian, Bali has succeeded in creating a sophisticated beach bar supported by a drinks menu that is sure to impress.

The bar is unashamedly champagne focused with a notable selection on offer, including bottles from coveted champagnes houses like Krug, Cristal, Dom Pérignon, Veuve Clicquot and Billecart-Salmon; champagnes that are sure to please even the most discerning guests.

The Ocean Champagne Bar also offers Veuve Clicquot’s signature Yellow Label and Louis Roederer’s Brut Premier served by the glass as house champagnes, along with a range of prosecco, other New and Old World sparkling wines and classic champagne-inspired cocktails like the Bellini.

While champagne may be the focal point of the bar, a selection of specially curated and extravagant caviars are available, plus delicious canapés and small bites specially created to pair with the drink of your choice.

Louis Roederer Brut Premier

With the sublime champagnes on offer at The Legian, Bali’s new sophisticated oceanfront champagne bar it would be extremely easy to get caught up in the famous vintages and names, waxing lyrical about the finesse and complexity of these delightful champagnes. For instance, in the mid-price bracket a Dom Pérignon truly takes some beating, while the audacity of a Cristal is perhaps beyond compare.

But when it comes to that elusive combination of quality, price and approachability, Louis Roederer Brut Premier is always going be a top choice. The personification of the Louis Roederer style, Brut Premier is one of The Ocean Champagne Bar’s house champagnes and is available by the glass.

A blend of around 40% Pinot noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, the wine is aged for three years in Louis Roederer’s own cellars under the watchful eye of Cellar Master Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, then left for a minimum of six months after disgorging. The result is a striking balance between youthfulness and maturity. The character is harmonious and structured, elegant, exuberant and lively and, most importantly, very enjoyable to drink.

The champagne itself is full and complex. Rich and powerful, it is a classic and eminently approachable champagne. Fresh fruit and hawthorn on the nose, followed by a smooth, complex palate showing apple, pear and red berries with notes of toast and almonds, the golden colour and fine bubbles make this a perfect aperitif, but also a wine that readily accompanies light entrées, particularly those based on fish or shellfish.
