Embracing New Tea Experiences

Tea-based mocktail

Who doesn’t love tea? This magnificent plant is loved and admired not only for the great variety of tastes and scents, but also for its health benefits and antioxidants. While most people are familiar with simply brewing tea with hot water, not many know that Ceylon tea can be an excellent ingredient for cooking.

For the first time ever in Indonesia, global leading tea brand Dilmah put together its Dilmah Tea Inspiration for the 21st Century challenge to search for teams of chefs and mixologists who deliver the best gourmet renditions inspired by Dilmah’s very own Ceylon tea. The contest took place on 19 and 20 August at Pullman Jakarta Indonesia and was assessed by a panel of internationally acclaimed judges, including Dilmah CEO Dilhan C. Fernando, chef, restaurateur and Dilmah’s brand ambassador Peter Kuruvita, world champion flair bartender Tomek Malek and renowned Indonesian celebrity chef Yuda Bustara.

Tea Inspiration for the 21st Century is about being able to enjoy tea and the 23 participating teams from Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Bandung had to demonstrate their talents and creativity. During the 45-minute presentation, each team had to serve and present three compositions to the judges: a hot tea pairing, tea-inspired drink and tea-infused food item for morning, afternoon and evening presentation. The judges were greatly impressed with the inspiration on display over the two days. The winning Indonesian team received a prize of a lifetime: a visit to scenic Sri Lanka to attend the Dilmah School of Tea.
