By Sun Tung Lok, at Fairmont Jakarta
Found within the refined and luxurious Fairmont Jakarta in Senayan Square, the House of Yuen by Sun Tung Lok is a magnificent Cantonese restaurant and features lavish banquet-style seating for over 250 guests accompanied by nine luxurious private rooms designed for groups who want a more intimate dining experience, be it in celebration of a special occasion or an imposing business lunch.
The restaurant impresses from the very first moment one arrives at its soft gold reception. The design steps away from the traditional Chinese style and replaces it with understated, sophisticated subtlety with a blend of dusky blues, soft gold and cream décor accented by an array of art and light features. The restaurant is opulent with velvet blue and grey seating set around banquet and long tables dressed in creamy tablecloths adorned with flashes of bright colour and glitz accents.
Under the guidance of one of Hong Kong’s most notable Cantonese chefs, the Michelin-starred Sun Tung Lok, the menu is as sumptuous and inspiring as the restaurant itself. Naturally, only the finest premium ingredients are used to create both signature dishes and classic Cantonese favourites.
House of Yuen welcomes guests for lunch from 11am and dinner from 6pm daily where the menu of original and classic dishes will be sure to impress. From the House of Yuen Originals choose from dishes like roast crisp chicken with flaxseed and oven-baked king prawns with cheese and spicy XO sauce. Beautifully presented, the clean and elegant plating shows off the dishes superbly.
The Chef’s platter with fresh abalone, beef tongue in XO sauce and jellyfish is a favourite appetiser, or choose elegant and authentic dishes like braised chicken feet in abalone sauce or deep-fried stuffed crab claw with minced shrimp paste from the à la carte menu. Then there’s soups like the creative Budda Jumps Over the Wall or the chef’s renowned double-boiled chicken soup with fish maw, goji berry and sea whelk.
The roasts and meats are all you would expect and more and include signatures like the succulent roast suckling pig stuffed with minced shrimp, available as quarter, half or whole sizes, as well as dishes like honey-glazed pork loin skewer with Iberico osmanthus, wok-fried wagyu beef fillet with garlic and assorted mushrooms and much more.
Building upon the Cantonese traditions there is naturally a prominent seafood selection including the aromatic Alaskan king crab casserole and the scrumptious baked stuffed crab shell with crabmeat, onion and mushroom, a visually striking and lavish dish.
With a full supporting cast of vegetables, rice and noodles, the menu also features an extra special selection of dim sum with dishes like steamed seafood birds nest dumplings along with a host of delicacies like abalone, bird’s nest and prickly sea cucumber.
With an outstanding drinks menu and peerless service, dining at the House of Yuen is a delightful experience that is as much about the ambience as it is about the high quality of the cuisine and service.
