The outdoor terrace of this airy restaurant boasts shady trees and views over Kuta’s bustling street, while inside is airy with plenty of seating for groups of all sizes, as well as a stylish bar where diners can relax over a few drinks, including refreshing juices.
Dining at Kunyit is a memorable experience that starts with ceremonial handwashing and a traditional herbal drink that nourishes the health. The menus resemble ancient palm leaf manuscripts and are filled with authentic Indonesian dishes, as well as some wonderful Balinese temptations. While satay, noodles, fried rice, grilled seafood and platters are always popular, the pièce de résistance is the Balinese megibung. This multi-dish meal is served on an offering stand in the centre of the table in the communal family-style used in Indonesian homes. Alongside the choice of red and white rice are Balinese sausage, crispy pork belly, king prawns and local vegetables, as well as a clear chicken broth, among others. This traditional offering ends with a selection of local desserts and fresh fruit.
