Merah Putih

Sayur Woku

Renowned for serving authentic Indonesian flavours with flair and imagination, Merah Putih is a must-visit destination in the hearts of many of Bali’s visitors, as well as being a highlight for locals. The restaurant itself is a masterpiece of design, function and visual impact with a towering ceiling, huge windows, shapely white pillars and potted greenery turning it into an indoor garden, with teak pods on the mezzanine floor for more intimate meals and a great view across the interior. Open for lunch and dinner, the menus offer creative interpretations of classic Indonesian dishes, inspired by the chef’s travels through the country and the use of modern techniques and skills. One of the most popular dishes with regular diners is the Pangsit Lobster, an Indonesian-style ravioli stuffed with succulent lobster meat served in a coconut bisque, while the Soerabi Rendang – the famed Sumatran beef curry served on crumpet – is also deservedly popular. For an opener, you can’t go wrong with the Udang – a char-grilled prawn served with smoked potatoes, tomato, wood ear and petai, large enough for a light main course. Of the many mains, we love the Gulai Kambing, a Javanese lamb shank curry, but there is a multi-course tasting menu if you just can’t decide! To round off your meal, indulge in one of the four kinds of Liquid Desert, a mini martini served with a paired matching treat. The beauty of the plating, excellence of the food and the great ambience have guests returning to Merah Putih again and again.
