Firing up a stir with his Asian-inspired cooking, Meyrick’s redefined modern Thai and Asian dishes have charmed the palates of all who have been lucky enough to taste them. Chasing his passion to discover authentic flavours, Meyrick has travelled the culinary landscapes of Bali, Thailand and Hong Kong, leaving no stone unturned as he explores his consummate muse – the dishes of the locals, where kitchen secrets have been passed down for generations. As with Meyrick’s burgeoning Bali-based Sarong and Mama San restaurants, E&O’s menu is a result of his journeys and travels, as well as his vision and interpretation of what constitutes honest Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.

Appetizers range from spiced bites such as the Salmon Betel Leaf, infused with galangal, dried shrimps, roasted chillies, coriander and salmon roe; to the rich and succulent Pulled Pork Belly with fresh herbs, bean sprouts, Lumpia Semarang wrappers and a decadent plum sauce. Main course highlights include the “Kaeng Phet” of Roasted Duck with lychee, ginger, Thai basil and chillies, and the stir-fried “Pad Prik Khing” Shrimps mixed with chillies, wild ginger, long beans and holy basil.

Although desserts are not exactly a strong part of Asian cuisine, Will Meyrick has successfully infused local flavour into some classic western desserts which are just as spectacular and as essential to try as the spectrum of exquisite starters and mains. The Mango Tiramisu serves as a tropical twist on the Italian favourite, served with passion fruit ice cream and a smooth and edgy pineapple peanut praline. The Pumpkin and Pandan “Cendol” with green noodles, cincau and Nata de Coco prompts a double-take to check you are indeed looking at the dessert menu – testament to the utmost creativity and innovative talent at the expert hands of Meyrick.

An extensive but focused wine list compliments the fiery Asian dishes, from aromatic whites, sparkling and Champagne, to rich Pinot Noir and Shiraz varietals. Award-winning mixologists have also created Asian-inspired cocktails, centred around fresh tropical fruits and local ingredients such as pomelo, ginger chilies, nut tinctures and lemon grass. Classic cocktails and one of Jakarta’s largest selections of spirits and liquors will also be available.

The restaurant features an amalgamation of materials, from the long marble bar, to the dark hardwood flooring, pressed-tin ceiling and large steel-framed windows. The bright and airy space resembles a contemporary Asian eating hall, but without the kitschy ethnic details usually found in typical Asian restaurants. Instead, décor exudes a sense of refinement and timelessness, designed by the same team who created Loewy and Union. Driven to create a new standard in Asian dining, E&O is built on the energy and creativity of passionate, dedicated individuals. (www.eandojakarta.com)
