For those with a sweet tooth, there are few more heavenly destinations than The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas Nusa Dua, Bali
While for many indulging in a taste of the sweet things in life may be a guilty pleasure, Mulia Bali fully embraces the sweet life with new levels of creativity and sophistication.
The scent of sugar, spices and chocolate will draw you into The Cafe’s dessert room, which is actually two rooms, and deservedly so. As you enter the antechamber your eye will, without doubt, be drawn to the vast ice cream counter – a rotating circle with a veritable bounty of ice creams made in house. The creamy concoctions include favourites such as strawberry yuzu cheesecake, salted caramel brownie, as well as a traditional Indonesian es puter. Fresh fruit sorbets are also well represented with mango, passion fruit, orange and guava always popular choices. A chocolate fountain with chunks of cake, strawberries and marshmallows stands alongside the ice cream, with biscuits and meringues all tempting the palate.
The choice in the main dessert room can be quite overwhelming, with à la minute options available at each end and two full glass-fronted display cases showing compact, two-bite sized cakes and desserts, meaning you don’t need to worry if you can’t make up your mind and want to try several!
We are especially fond of the nutella panna cotta, although the apricot chocolate version is also very good, as is the apple crumble, exotic white mousse and Valrhona Jivara chocolate mousse with vanilla cremeux; in fact, making a decision in the dessert room is sweet torture!
As access to the dessert room comes either with one of The Cafe’s brunches or with its stylish and indulgent afternoon tea, guests are sure to be sublimely happy.
If you prefer to enjoy your sweet delights at home, then visit Mulia Bali’s equally wonderful Mulia Deli, which has another selection of cakes, pastries and desserts that are so delectable you may want to just move in. It is here that you can fully appreciate the incredible artistry and creative talents of the Mulia’s pastry team.
Everything looks exquisite, with rows of richly decorated choux buns and éclairs coming in a mind-boggling array of tastes; we can never resist the caramel ones covered in pecans, or the delicate citrus scent of the yuzu éclairs.
Meanwhile, the cakes come in individual, small and large sizes and are immaculately decorated with flavours as diverse as coconut pandan, chocolate fudge, cheesecake and hazelnut St. Honore. Specific creations for special events and monthly specials are always eye-catching, such as the Bastille Day special Apricot and Caramel cake decorated in the colours of the French flag.
For special events, including weddings, ask the chefs to make you your own unique cake. Pick the flavour, give them a photograph of your preferred design and wait for their talented hands to do the rest. From a gorgeous, fully edible flower basket to the latest designer handbag, a bouquet of flowers to an embroidered lace cushion, the only limit is your imagination.
The chefs’ light hands and intuitive touch, along with a free reign to make creative masterpieces, mean all those who delight in dessert, as well as many who were previously indifferent, are sure to make Mulia Bali a regular stop in their diary.
