Welcome to a contemporary izakaya with a spacious garden terrace overlooking the historic Central Police Station; KOKO is a sanctuary in the heart of Hong Kong. Opened in December 2015, KOKO is a partnership between KEE, which was founded in 2001 by Hong Kong-based Austrian Christian Rhomberg and his wife Maria as a private members club, and world-famous footballer, fashion icon and sake ambassador, Hidetoshi Nakata, bringing a new Japanese social dining concept to Hong Kong.
During dinner, KOKO’s team can suggest sake pairings according to your menu choice to elevate the taste of the food and support the social sharing concept of KOKO. Guests are also able to choose from an ever-changing list of sakes curated by Nakata’s company, Japan Craft Sake Company, featuring a wide variety of rare and vintage sake shipped directly from Japan, many of which are not readily found in Hong Kong. Unlike most Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong, which serve sake by the bottle, KOKO offers 10 to 15 different sakes by the glass so that guests can experience the whole spectrum of Nihonshu. Whisky drinkers can enjoy a selection of Japanese whiskies from Hakushu, Yamasaki, Yoichi, to Suntory without breaking the bank. The list of Japanese whiskies is continually evolving so diners can try something new on every visit. KOKO’s cocktails, which are crafted with Japanese whiskies and sake liqueurs, are light and fresh, making them perfect for sundowners on the terrace and matching perfectly with the food.
The izakaya-style contemporary menu allows guests to rediscover Japan through KOKO’s eyes. Signature dishes include Spicy Seafood Soup, Chu-Toro Tartare, Rock Shrimp Tempura with Chili Mayo, Chicken Tsukune with Soft Egg and Nori, Clams in Sake, Baby Back Pork Ribs, Uni Crab Hotpot, and Lamb Chops with Black Garlic and Hatcho Miso. The Dark Chocolate Green Tea Fondant with Vanilla Ice Cream is a must for dessert lovers. As the seasons change, KOKO’s chefs create daily specials to showcase the best seasonal Japanese delicacies, as well as unique local ingredients.
