Upon first glance, Cafe Michiko might seem to blend in with the rest of the eateries lining the streets of Dewi Sri. This café, an offshoot of famed villa management Nagisa Bali Group, doesn’t bother with pretence, choosing instead to rely on the warmth and familiarity of hearty Japanese and Indonesian comfort food. Offerings here range from an array of set menu daintily arranged atop wooden trays and vegan-friendly sushi rolls to variations of the reliable Nasi Goreng. Among them, the aromatic Sop Buntut and Hamburg Steak stand out as highlights.
Beyond the menu, the ethos of the cafe’s name (a portmanteau of the Japanese words for beauty, wisdom, and inspiration) is reflected through Souji Studio. Set on the second floor, this multipurpose space is dedicated to wellness and arts, hosting sound healing sessions led by Lina Goh herself and yoga classes. But, if the studio serves other interests, one can rent the space for their liking, following in the footsteps of a ballet class or the children’s choir from a local church.
