For the first time ever in Bali, The Seminyak Beach Resort & Spa is launching a Dine in the Dark event, where diners can enjoy a six-course sensory dinner experience without actually seeing the food. The resort will flip the switch, withholding the diners’ sense of sight for a while, aiming to evoke the other senses in enjoying the feast.
In the dark, diners are invited to savour the aroma, texture, sensations and taste of the dishes with a whole new appreciation, and to guess what exactly that they’re eating. With this unique dining concept, guests are also expected to be more involved in the conversations at the table, now that they have to rely on sounds and movements.
The six-course degustation dinner is crafted by Executive Chef Joshua Job and his inspired culinary team, emphasising texture, aroma and flavour. A wine-pairing option is available, for those who want to enhance the dinner experience to another level.
The unusual concept isn’t only created to pique guests’ curiosity, but to actually raise awareness about the visually impaired community. Diners will be served and guided by a team of highly trained, visually impaired staff, turning the tables for an evening. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the John Fawcett foundation. This humanitarian non-profit organisation focuses on helping disadvantaged people in Indonesia in the field of sight restoration and blindness prevention in particular. The dinner will be appropriately launched during Nyepi, on 7th March.
