The debut of Cognac Menier in Indonesia opened with a sense of quiet anticipation at 007 Cocktail & Whisky Bar. Rather than a distant, grand spectacle, the launch began with Maison Menier: A Tasting Flight Experience, drawing a crowd that gathered specifically to witness the brand’s first official steps in the country. The room hummed with a shared curiosity as guests settled in for a night dedicated to the craft of the Menier family.

The session, hosted by Thomas and Jacques Menier, felt like a personal invitation into their world. It started with an insightful presentation that traced the brand’s lineage, setting the stage for the liquid itself. This historical backdrop transformed the room, giving every drop of the upcoming spirit a sense of time and purpose. Once the introduction concluded, the atmosphere shifted to a guided exploration, with the focus entirely on the glasses lined up across the tables. Guests began to deconstruct the complex aromas, searching for the subtle notes that defined each unique vintage.

The flight highlighted the distinct characters of the house’s signature blends. The VSOP, matured for five to six years, offered a bright bouquet of peach and pear with a soft, vanilla warmth. It was an approachable, elegant start that prepared the palate for the XO. Aged for up to 25 years, the XO demanded a slower pace, revealing deep layers of jasmine, cacao, and toasted wood. Guests lingered over their pours, sniffing and swirling as they traded notes on the spirit’s complexity.

Throughout the night, the energy remained fluid and social. Thomas and Jacques moved naturally through the room, joining different groups to explain the nuances of the crus in a casual, easy-going manner. It was a scene of constant interaction, as guests mingled with the brothers and each other, sharing their first impressions of a brand that felt immediately at home in Jakarta.
