Relive the hedonistic era of 1980s Hong Kong at Mona Lounge, a decadent speakeasy-style cocktail bar in Singapore. Hidden on the second floor of Sum Yi Tai restaurant that serves a modern take on classic Cantonese cuisine, Mona Lounge is named after its fictional hostess, who likes to invite her friends to the intimate boudoir to bask in the intoxicating tipples and jazzy Chinese tunes.
With mah-jong tables and cosy leather seats, Mona Lounge transports customers back to 1980s Hong Kong to enjoy a modern-day Asian cocktail menu, courtesy of Head Bartender Byron Tan and Group Chief Bartender Sam Wong. Each cocktail unveils a story of Mona’s past.
Elusively sultry cocktails are waiting to be savoured, including Mona’s Tea – a cognac-based drink made with oolong tea, PX sherry and Fernet Branca, charmingly served in a teacup with salted egg chocolate. Another intriguing choice is the Songstress – a cheeky twist on the Old Fashioned, drawing inspiration from a famous Chinese herbal remedy, combining Bulleit Rye whiskey with pi pa gao and angostura bitters.
Inviting friends from Monday to Saturday, from 6pm to 1am, guests can request a unique code to access Mona Lounge from Sum Yi Tai. The code can also be obtained by making reservations via drink@monalounge.com.
