Nestled within the picturesque Padma Resort Legian, Tenkai Japanese Nikkei Restaurant offers a unique dining experience that blends the culinary traditions of Peru and Japan. The term Nikkei traditionally refers to Japanese people who were born and live in Peru, and Tenkai embodies this cultural fusion in every dish, delivering a harmonious blend of flavours that is sure to delight the senses.
At Tenkai, the emphasis is on using locally sourced ingredients, combined with Peruvian Japanese seasonings such as kombu dashi, chili panka, coriander and miso. This approach ensures that each dish is not only fresh but also rich in the distinctive tastes of both culinary traditions.
Some of the highlighted dishes include Ceviche A Lo Indo, a classic Nikkei dish amped up with an Indonesian twist. While the umami-rich Mancora features sliced raw octopus and sautéed shiitake mushrooms, combined with sake, olive sauce, shiitake dashi, jelly pepper, sweet corn and black tobiko. This dish perfectly captures the depth and complexity of Nikkei cuisine.
Furthermore, the Papita Loche is inspired by traditional Peruvian dishes Cau Cau and Papa Rellena, this dish combines the sweetness of pumpkin, a hint of wasabi spiciness and the creamy richness of eggplant butter and feta cheese. It’s a flavourful exploration of Peruvian culinary heritage. Meanwhile on the beverage front, must-try cocktails include Tebu Ambar, Tokyo Love Story and Tenkai Mango Colada.
Every Sunday, Tenkai hosts Izakaya Night, inspired by the traditional Japanese izakaya concept, providing a relaxed environment for friends and family to enjoy light bites and conversation. The evening features live acoustic music, a selection of cold and hot appetisers and over 15 light bite options. Signature drinks like the Spiced Apple Martini and authentic shochu are available upon request.
