In a grand celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya has unveiled The Moonlit Blossom, an enchanting event that masterfully combines the rich traditions of the Mooncake Festival with contemporary flair.
As a beloved occasion for Surabaya’s Chinese community, this year’s event at the Pavilion Restaurant transformed the venue into a stunning lantern garden, resplendent with intricate floral designs that embody the essence of the Moonlit Blossom theme.
Drawing inspiration from the timeless legend of the Moon Palace and the Goddess of the Moon, Chang’e, this year’s festivities highlight the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The centrepiece of the event is a series of exquisite hand-drawn illustrations by IISM Studio, which depict the serene beauty of flowers blooming under the moonlight. These delicate designs grace the elegant mooncake boxes, setting the tone for the event’s opening ceremony.
The celebration commenced with the melodious tunes of the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument, creating a serene and culturally rich ambiance. Guests were then treated to an exclusive fashion show, featuring models draped in elegant Chinese attire by renowned Surabaya designer Lily Sasongko, complemented by exquisite hairpieces from Le Ciel Design. The models, showcasing intricately carved floral cheongsams, gracefully paraded the runway carrying hampers of mooncakes, each box labeled The Moonlit Blossom.
The evening’s culinary delights were as impressive as the visual spectacle. Guests indulged in a selection of exquisite mooncakes, with flavours ranging from the luxurious snow skin varieties like musang king, matcha-cream cheese chocolate truffle, umeshu lemon cake and strawberry chocolate truffle, to traditional baked mooncakes including green tea, red bean tangerine, white lotus, black sesame, red date and walnut, osmanthus flower and cranberries. These mooncakes are available for purchase starting at IDR158,000++ per piece.
To enhance the evening’s allure, the venue was adorned with a magical garden backdrop, complete with twinkling LED lights, creating a harmonious and dreamlike atmosphere. The event also featured a special collaboration between Chef Chong Loong Fat, dim sum chef & banquet culinary art expert from Tang Palace – Chinese Restaurant, and Eliawati Erly, a tea master from Dilmah Tea, who curated the perfect tea pairings to complement each mooncake flavour crafted by the talented Chef Affat.
