Just six months into opening and MOFO Kitchen is the hottest new spot to hang out over brunch and lunch. Right from the get-go, its playful name lets you in on a little secret – that this place doesn’t take itself too seriously, that is, until it comes down to the food.
MOFO’s menu draws inspiration from classic Western comfort food then infuses these dishes with the defined and bold flavours of Indonesia, especially Manadonese food from North Sulawesi. If you know a thing or two about Manadonese cuisine, you’ll already know that these dishes will come with plenty of spice. In fact, the signature spice mixtures here are so good, MOFO has gone right ahead and bottled them for purchase, too. From the Western breakfast and brunch menu, be sure to try the Nordic, a twist on eggs Benedict with Norwegian smoked salmon, runny eggs and avocado on brioche, loaded with tobiko and hollandaise sauce. There’s also the Full Monty, a classic fry-up with all the trimmings, and even fried camembert, because there’s nothing better than gooey, melted cheese in the morning. For those with a fiery palate, check out the mains and lunch menu, “For the FOMOS”. The squid ink pasta is the best version we’ve ever tried, complete with the famous MOFO chilli, whilst the open sandwiches loaded with roast pork, mushrooms and even skipjack tuna are just what the doctor ordered for an afternoon bite, finished with a MOFO chilli kick.
