One such rising star from The Apurva Kempinski Bali is I Kadek Sumiarta, a gifted and driven young culinary artist. After emerging victorious in the esteemed Young Talents Escoffier competition for both Indonesia and the Asia Pacific area, Kadek will be representing Southeast Asia and Indonesia in the global final that will take place in Paris in November 2024.

The Young Talents Escoffier competition, organised by Disciples Escoffier International, is an elite contest aimed at identifying and fostering the next generation of culinary artisans under the age of 25. It celebrates the legacy of Auguste Escoffier, the legendary chef who revolutionised the culinary world with his pioneering techniques and emphasis on fine dining. Competing chefs are challenged to demonstrate their mastery of classic French cuisine while pushing the boundaries of innovation and creativity. Winning this competition offers young chefs international recognition, exposure to renowned culinary experts and invaluable networking opportunities.

Kadek’s success in the Indonesia and Asia Pacific rounds of the competition is a remarkable achievement that took months of intense preparation, discipline and hard work. Kadek credits much of his growth to the mentorship of the resort’s two renowned chefs: Jean-Yves Leuranguer, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France Cuisine 1996 winner and Ho Weng Kit, a multi-award-winning chef with over 30 prestigious accolades. These mentors have imparted invaluable knowledge on classic French techniques, problem-solving in the kitchen and world-class culinary skills, helping Kadek refine his craft while staying true to his Balinese roots.
