A Romantic Korean Feast at Alila Villas Uluwatu

A Romantic Korean Feast at Alila Villas Uluwatu

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate love with a lavish Korean dining experience at The Warung, Alila Villas Uluwatu, featuring a culinary collaboration with Michelin-acclaimed Chef Louis Han of GU:UM and NAE:UM.

This Valentine’s, The Warung at Alila Villas Uluwatu is set to ignite the flames of love with an exclusive dining experience in collaboration with Singapore’s contemporary Korean Steakhouse, GU:UM. For two nights only, on 14 and 15 February 2025, Chef Louis Han, the culinary visionary behind GU:UM and its sister restaurant, the one-MICHELIN-starred NAE:UM, will take over the kitchen to present a modern Korean gastronomic journey. Available from 6.30pm, the sharing-course dinner is priced at IDR1,880,000++ per person.

Chef Han’s culinary artistry is shaped by his upbringing in Seoul’s vibrant Gangnam district, where diverse global cultures intermingle. Over thirteen years, he honed his expertise in both Asian and western fine dining across various global cities from Seoul, Singapore, to the Middle East, working at prestigious establishments such as the three-MICHELIN-starred Mosu in Seoul. In 2021, he established NAE:UM in Singapore, followed by GU:UM in 2024, a concept dedicated to the art of cooking over fire. His talent was then recognised with the MICHELIN Guide Young Chef Award in 2022.

GU:UM, meaning “to grill, roast, or cook over fire” in Korean, is celebrated for its innovative approach to charcoal-grilled meats and contemporary Korean flavours, reinterpreted within a modern western steakhouse setting. For this special collaboration, Chef Han has curated an exceptional menu featuring some of GU:UM’s best-selling signatures and bold new creations.

Diners can anticipate inventive takes on classic Korean favourites, including Yukhwae Jeon—a crisp and fluffy potato pancake crowned with Korean-style beef tartare, pickled onions and an egg yolk jam; Korean fried cauliflower—a vegetarian twist on the universally adored Korean fried chicken, coated in a house-made sweet and spicy Yangnyeom sauce; and a fresh interpretation of Mulhwae—a traditionally tangy cold soup with raw fish, now reimagined as a vibrant salad of seasonal sashimi dressed in a light and zesty vinaigrette.

The feast continues with a hearty Sang (platter) featuring expertly grilled meats and seafood, including premium Iberico cuts, wagyu striploin, succulent fresh fish and prawns, all accompanied by charred vegetables sourced from Bali’s lush landscape. Enhanced with GU:UM’s signature marinades, the result is a sublime sharing plate of Korean flavours harmonised with Bali’s natural bounty, best enjoyed with Bali herb al (fish roe) rice.

To conclude on a sweet note, the experience is closed with two exquisite Korean fusion desserts: yuzu Makgeoli—a tender poached pear paired with yuzu and dealcoholised Korean rice wine sorbet, and Hotteok—a pan-fried glutinous rice cake adorned with candied nuts and a scoop of burnt honey ice cream.

Whether it’s an intimate evening under the stars, a joyous gathering with friends or simply indulging in exceptional cuisine, this exclusive dining event offers an unforgettable way to elevate your Valentine’s Day celebrations.
