A one-night dinner at Park Hyatt Jakarta brought bold flavours, Spanish wines and a laidback rhythm to the city skyline.
There’s something irresistible about a dinner that not only satisfies your hunger but also seems to slow down time. On 23 May, Park Hyatt Jakarta welcomed guests to a carefully paced culinary experience titled Savor España, a one-night-only collaboration between Santanera Bali and Matsu Wines. This was no ordinary wine dinner; it unfolded in layers that were subtle, bold and pleasantly surprising.
Held on level 22, The Dining Room offered a warm and intimate atmosphere with sweeping views of the city. Chef Andrés Becerra presented a ten-course menu that brought together Latin flavours, Spanish elegance and a hint of Asian influence. Dishes such as dry-aged duck paired with the 2021 El Viejo and Patagonian toothfish with a delicate Spanish white stood out as quiet revelations on the plate.
What set the evening apart was its effortless rhythm. Instead of following a strict format, guests were gently introduced to each wine pairing by Erik Wolff and Liuba Letorova of Matsu. Their relaxed and unpretentious approach made the wines from the Toro region feel more like part of a conversation than a formal presentation. The pairing of Carrara Wagyu with the youthful El Pícaro sparked lively exchanges around the table, deepening appreciation for both the wine’s structure and the richness of the dish.
By the time dessert arrived—a frozen cheesecake served with the softer 2022 El Recio—conversations were still flowing, glasses were casually refilled and the evening had taken on the feel of a gathering among old friends rather than a formal event.
It’s rare to experience a night where everything feels in balance: the flavours, the pace, the company. There was no need for grand gestures or elaborate showpieces. It was a reminder that great dining doesn’t need to raise its voice. Sometimes, it simply knows when to pause.
