As Indonesia’s vibrant world of mixology continues to diversify, a new player is set to add some spice to the country’s spirited playground. From the highlands of Mexico, the tequila brand founded by actor and wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Teremana, is bringing a taste of Latin American drinking culture to the bar scene across Indonesia, as part of a deal between distributor Mast-Jägermeister SE and PT Pantja Artha Niaga.
“We are thrilled about Teremana being here. There are so much demands for tequila in Indonesia now, and we eventually can be the one who offers a real ultra-premium tequila with a real sustainability value behind it,” said Stanislav Ponomarev, Country Manager of Jägermeister & Teremana Indonesia.
Handcrafted in small batches at Destilería Teremana de Agave, an exclusive Mexican family-owned distillery in the Jalisco Highlands, every bottle boasts a clean finish and a distinct taste that varies between its three expressions. The Blanco is vibrant and citrusy, the Reposado feels slightly mellower with notes of oak and vanilla. At the same time, the whisky-like Añejo boasts a pronounced toasty profile and a complex finish. It’s the result of a meticulous process rooted in sustainability, utilising the terroir’s ingredients, involving local businesses, and employing eco-friendly practices, true to the manifesto of its name, Spirit of the Earth.
As an extension of that philosophy, its launch in Indonesia came with a simultaneous partnership with Sungai Watch, an environmental organisation focused on waste management in the nation’s waters, intercepting plastic from reaching the ocean by cleaning rivers. With this initiative, 50% of Teremana’s launch-day sales will benefit Sungai Watch’s efforts, extending its commitment to honour the land it inhabits, from Mexico to Indonesia.
