E : What are your responsibilities?
A: As the assistant bar manager, my primary responsibility is to ensure the bar runs seamlessly. This includes managing my team effectively, overseeing inventory, scheduling shifts and guaranteeing that every customer enjoys a memorable experience. Whenever challenges arise, whether it’s a sudden influx of patrons or a last-minute staff issue, I’m the one who steps in to address and resolve the situation efficiently.
E : What makes a typical day?
A: My typical day begins early in the morning, as I believe starting the day on the right foot is essential. I usually head to the gym to work out, which energises me and sharpens my focus for the day ahead. After a session at the gym, I spend some time reviewing the bar’s schedules and inventory before I dive into the hustle and bustle of work.
E : Your best attribute?
A: I would say my greatest attribute is my ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure. The bar environment can become quite hectic, especially during peak hours, but I excel at managing multiple orders and ensuring smooth operations while keeping my composure. Staying collected allows me to support my team and provide exceptional service to our patrons.
E : Team player or team leader?
A: I would identify primarily as a team player. While I do take on leadership responsibilities, I believe that collaboration and support among team members are crucial to our success.
E : Who has been the most influential figure in your career to date?
A: Without a doubt, my previous bar manager, Buda, has had the most profound impact on my career. He taught me the critical importance of staying calm during the busiest rush hours and how to lead a team without coming across as authoritarian. I learnt so much just by observing his approach to pressure and how he fostered a positive work environment.
E : Name one special thing about your bar?
A: One standout feature of our bar is its unique vibe. The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with stunning decorations, creates a laidback space where guests feel free to be themselves. We strive to foster a sense of community that goes beyond just serving drinks; it’s about building connections and creating lasting memories for everyone who walks through our doors.
E : How do you unwind?
A: I love to go fishing. It offers me a tranquil escape and a chance to reconnect with nature. There’s something incredibly peaceful about sitting by the water, listening to the sounds of nature and waiting for a bite.
E : Dead or alive, who would you like to take out to dinner?
A: Honestly, I would choose to take my late grandfather out to dinner. He never had the chance to witness the path my career has taken, and I would love to share a good meal with him and catch up on life.
