On the full-moon evening of 11th April, Copper Kitchen & Bar replaced its monthly Moonlight Dinner with something more special, featuring Executive Chef Ben McRae and former MasterChef contestant and food author Petty Elliott. This year, Bisma Eight’s rustic rooftop restaurant sees a collaboration season in full swing, and Petty is the second chef to grace the property with her presence at the dinner event aptly named Nusasense (loosely translated as island sense).
Petty brought characteristics from her two homes of Manado, North Sulawesi, and England to the table, showcasing modern Indonesian fare with authentic European twists. Meanwhile Ben was armed with his skills in high culinary art and earth-to-table philosophy, bringing in locally sourced fresh ingredients from Amed fisheries, Tegalalang reserve, The Gardens by Bisma Eight and the event’s partner, Global Seafood Bali.
Diners were thrilled to find the unique take on Indonesian food paired with an eclectic selection of cocktails and wines. The five course of delights included modern versions of Indonesian traditional cuisine like rujak Jakarta, deconstructed prawn laksa Bogor, nasi kuning Manado, daging rawon Surabaya and kolak pisang. Add to all those delicacies the mesmerising full moon over the lush green surroundings of Ubud and Copper’s charming ambience, and the guests went home with truly an evening to remember.
