The Charm of a Quaint Turkish Village

The Charm of a Quaint Turkish Village

Regarded as one of the best cuisines in the world, today’s Turkish cuisine still reflects the flavours and dishes passed down through generations, from 1,300 years ago. In Jakarta, Warung Turki reigns supreme in offering an authentic taste of Turkey.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the popular Kemang enclave, this eatery is a Mediterranean-Turkish oasis like no other. Within the three-storey building, diners are invited to savour authentic Turkish home cooking crafted from family recipes.

The restaurant is helmed by Chef/Owner Sezai Zorlu, Jakarta’s only expert in Ottoman Turkish cuisine, who has single-handedly shaped Turkish cuisine with his rigorous dedication to authentic methods. In its quest for authenticity, Warung Turki doesn’t compromise on the cooking method or the ingredients in every dish.

When browsing the menu, diners will be delighted to find rustic wood charcoal grilled dishes such as doner kebab – thinly shaved meat marinated overnight, grilled over wood charcoal and rolled in soft, thin bread with sumac onion salad; or pilay ustu doner, a shawarma served with butter rice.

Other favourites at the restaurant include gozleme, a Turkish-style thin bread with village-style fillings. For the ultimate meal, kagit kebabi is the chef’s favourite and comprises meat kebab, chillies and tomatoes and served with freshly baked bread.

The famous Turkish tea and baklava are also available here, not to mention Turkish Delight imported directly from Turkey. For those who have never tried baklava, it is made of layers of phyllo pastry, butter, pistachio and homemade syrup.
