First-time visitors to Kila-Kila will be greeted by a cheerful array of pinwheels decorating the foyer wall leading to the restaurant. Cheerily bright yellow and cloud grey, the pinwheels welcome guests and set the tone for Kila-Kila’s dining experience. Kila-Kila’s name is inspired by Sanskrit, which translates as “sound of joy”. Inspired by this, Kila-Kila is dedicated to serving up joy and happiness to its customers with every single plate of Indonesian delicacies.
Kila-Kila’s main dining area is a warm lofted space with stretches of vertical windows opening up to gorgeous views of the SCBD thoroughfare, with lush manicured lawns and paved sidewalks. Chic bright yellow and grey dining chairs sidle up to banks of polished walnut tables and rectangular squares of handsomely veined black marble table tops. A dapper stretch of black marble bar counter faces the main dining area, accompanied by a row of stylish grey bar stools. Above the bar, an elegantly latticed wooden rack showcases ornate pieces of Indonesian pottery. An eclectic array of intricate wooden lamps provides warm illumination for diners. Stretches of rectangular mirrors cover the dining area’s ceilings to round off the tasteful décor.
Spanning over 18,000 islands, Indonesia is a literal melting pot of flavours, with rich heritage and culinary traditions. With over 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Kila-Kila is dedicated to treating guests to a dazzling array of Indonesian cuisines from all across the archipelago. Visitors looking for something traditional and comforting can order the sup buntut – an aromatic broth of slow-braised oxtail pieces, with slices of vibrant carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, finished with crisp emping crackers, zesty lime and a generous dollop of green chilli sambal. The sate Wagyu Kila-Kila is a signature dish guests should definitely try. Marinated chunks of tender Wagyu beef are skewered onto bamboo sticks, grilled over charcoal fire to fragrant perfection and served piping hot with tantalising house-made sauce. Diners looking for something deliciously adventurous can try the ayam bakar bumbu rujak. A heavenly Javanese marinade of red onions, garlic, lemongrass and coconut milk is lovingly massaged into whole chicken pieces and marinated overnight before being grilled to luscious crispness. For those looking to satisfy their craving for dessert, try the Marie Regal gelato – a unique take on a traditional Italian dessert with the flavour of the iconic biscuit sure to bring back childhood memories.
