A Rare Opportunity

This November, indulge in the world’s most expensive whisky tasting in Sweden.

An exclusive tasting seminar will be held in Sweden in November that is entirely dedicated to all the whisky lovers around the world. From 1 to 3 November, enjoy the chance to taste the world’s most rare Japanese whisky at Upper House Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden. Featuring the full unopened deck of Ichiro’s Malt Card collection, this whisky tasting is open to 48 guests only.

Ichiro’s Malt Cards originate from the Hanyu Distillery, one of the smallest and most renowned distilleries in Japan, which ended production in 2000. After closing the distillery, the founder’s grandson, Ichiro Akuto, saved 400 of the best casks and used them for this playing card collection.

The tasting will be hosted by Sweden’s whisky enthusiast Pye Palm, a retired pilot who has been collecting Ichiro’s Malt Cards for 30 years. At this event, the full deck of 52 bottles plus two additional joker bottles will be presented to guests. The seminar will be divided into four tastings, each including 13 to 14 bottles. Each bottle comes with its own original card label and brings its own unique flavour.

As an additional treat, a limited-edition special malt will be released to commemorate the occasion. All participants will also become honourable members of the Monochrome Joker Club. An exclusive club founded by Pye Palm for those who has tasted all 54 casks of Ichiro’s Malt Card series.
