I Nyoman Sukarya Putra

Assistant Director of Food & Beverage at The Ungasan Clifftop Resort

E: Describe your typical day in a sentence.

Putra: Everyday is always a new day with a new challenge. The only way to start and finish a day is with a positive attitude, creativity, and by treating others the way we would like to be treated.

E: So how did you come to be the Assistant Director of F&B for The Ungasan Clifftop Resort?

P: I started my career 20 years ago when I finished my F&B internship in Le Meridien Singapore, and joined Le Meridien Nirwana Bali, and moved to Hardrock Hotel Bali afterwards. The next four years I worked in Maia Luxury Resort & Spa in Seychelles, under the Southern Sun Hotel Group. Then I came home to Bali and gained more experience at Four Seasons Bali Resort at Jimbaran Bay for another three years, where I found myself part of the pre-opening team of Sundara. I was also part of the pre-opening team of GHM Chedi Sakala, before I moved to Semara Uluwatu Resort. Now, here I am in The Ungasan Clifftop Resort and Sundays Beach Club.

E: What’s the toughest part of your job?

P: When you decide to choose a career in F&B, sometimes you have to spend lot of time at work, more than with your family and for your social life.

E: And what makes you smile at work?

P: The people around me and the guests that I meet every day.

E: What motivates you?

P: Success is my life journey, so I will try my best to pursue happiness.

E: Would things fall apart if you weren’t around?

P: Never, as I’m fully supported by the greatest team that I trust and empower.

E: Who, in your team, deserves more recognition and why?

P: The staff who perform well receive rewards, then they inspire the others to achieve the company’s goal.

E: Why should people come to The Ungasan Clifftop Resort or Sundays Beach Club to dine/stay?

P: The staff will create magic with service from the heart, there’s the prestigious location on the cliff top, and of course, the best food and drinks, plus the unforgettable beach club experience in Bali.

E: Away from work, what’s your favourite place to eat?

P: Babi guling Oka in Ubud.

E: How do you unwind?

P: Stay home and watch TV or a movie.

E: Finally, any advice for those looking to break into the industry?

P: We need to have passion, determination and creativity to achieve employee-guest satisfaction.
