Gusto Gelato & Caffè
After hearing on multiple occasions that Gusto’s serves up the best ice-cream on the island, we just had to try a few scoops. And ever since we got our first taste of their fiery chilli chocolate flavour, we can’t help but agree with the masses. They serve up a number of delicious gelato varieties, like rum & raisin, mint chocolate and vanilla ticking off the classics, as well as more unusual, regional favourites like kemangi (Indonesian basil), dragonfruit, lemongrass and cinnamon. But our favourite is without a doubt the chilli chocolate gelato. Most chilli-flavoured ice-creams only provide a hint of fire, but Gusto’s go full steam ahead by using whole Indonesian Cabe chillies – the ones renowned for their intense heat and beautiful flavours. There’s no superficial powders used here, instead, every scoop of the smooth ice-cream is textured by little lumps of the puréed chillies, mixed in with rich and creamy chocolate from Holland. It’s quite a strange sensation when your mouth is so cool and icy, yet at the same it feels hot and spicy. You’ll just have to try it to see what we mean. (www.gusto-gelateria.com)
