A Bakers Love

Eric Kayser Artisan Baker believes in a creative spirit and best quality ingredients, and as such, encourages all of its partners around the world to innovate their own recipes using only the best bread and second-to-none ingredients.

The man himself fell in love with all things bread when he was four years old, igniting an undying passion that would take him places to pursue a passion that has been in his family for at least three generations.

One of the latest additions to the Eric Kayser family of bakeries is located in Plaza Senayan, Jakarta. With a great location and well set-up interiors nicely highlighting the wide selection of pastries and bites, the venue is a great place to enjoy authentic French baked goodness.

More importantly, in upholding the brand’s philosophy, Eric Kayser at Plaza Senayan uses only the best resources, and the people behind the brand go to great lengths to make sure this principle is fulfilled. “While we like to keep everything local whenever possible in order to keep the ingredients fresh and avoid overcharging customers for import prices, we are also very particular about using only the best ingredients. This is important not only because it is our creed, but because the customers deserve real pastries made using real ingredients, as they were meant to be enjoyed.

When you have that kind of attention and love, things you can expect include premium bread that is full of character and soul throughout its tender honeycomb, with subtle aroma and fine gold crusts, croissants made from premium butter and specially selected flour, and tantalizing pastries that are just to die for.

One of the most sought-after pastries in Eric Kayser is the Lemon Tart. Containing no preservatives, flavouring, or any artificial additives whatsoever, the refreshing lemon cream, zest, and juice of this tart delivers an elevated taste. As the rich cream and crunchy crust melds together, one serving of Lemon Tart is sure to lead to seconds.

Thanks to directions from Mr. Kayser himself and top-notch ingredients to work with, pastry chef Romain Devin is able to dish out pastries of exceptional quality. The éclairs of Eric Kayser, to look at one example, have been wildly famous ever since the boulanger’s éclair weekend, where all of the creamy goodies sold out within the first few hours of opening.

Romain and his crew continue to innovate and present new creations every week, so you will always find something different in each visit.

The macaronade, due to its beautiful presentation and exotic flavours, is particularly popular among the ladies. It takes an enlarged version of macaron wafers on the top and bottom of fresh, lively red raspberries, which in turn cover pistachio nuts and cream at the centre. It is like looking at a juicy, messy-yet-thoughtful hamburger, only with raspberries and macarons as the buns. Oh, and let’s not forget the decorative rose petal that fits right in there making the whole presentation all the more exquisite. The flavours are as pleasant as the appearance suggests—sweet, sour, fresh, and crunchy with lots of complex textures.

Eric Kayser also offers more than just bread, pastries, and dessert. The wide selection of fine tea and coffee compliments the whole experience. As do the various plats principaux, which include more fulfilling courses, such as a pan-fried lobster, chicken kiev, parpadella burgundy pasta, and an ample choice of sandwiches. One of the latest additions to the menu is the tenderloin foie gras—seared tenderloin and foie gras served with asparagus, truffle potato gratin, and red wine gravy. A perfectly delightful dish if you’re looking for a more filling fare before starting your dessert and pastry adventure at Eric Kayser Plaza Senayan.
