at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta
Li Feng’s eye for artistic presentation is evident from the moment guests enter the restaurant and take in the subtle elegance of the décor, every last piece of which, including the chandelier, is inspired by the historical spice trade between China and Batavia. This thoughtful style can also be seen in the artful plating of the dishes, the most famed of which is the frequently photographed deep-fried swan dumplings with black pepper duck meat, which arrive at the table in swirls of mist as though swimming on a pond on an early spring morning.
The tempting menu at Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s Li Feng was created by celebrity chef Huang Jing Hui, popularly known as Chef Fei, who helms one-Michelin star Jiang at Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou, in collaboration with Li Feng’s Executive Chinese Chef Chang See Loy. Together their inspiration and creativity have come up with an extensive choice of classic Canton flavours alongside contemporary creations such as the long-term favourite crispy fried fish skin with salted egg sauce. Newcomers to the menu include chilled ro macai roll with Szechuan-style peanut sauce and deep-fried smoked cod with five spice powder, as well as the satisfyingly warm almond and black sesame dumplings with peanuts.
The elegant restaurant also has three distinctive, sophisticated private dining rooms for intimate gatherings and private celebrations.
