The Spirits Live On

Wine-Tasting-Metis-2014-11-20_23One wind-swept evening on the plush couches of MÉTIS Lounge overlooking a splendid Bali sunset, we attended a special tasting and food pairing of G.E. Massenez’s fine liqueurs and eau-de-vie (fruit brandies). Over delicious canapés created by Executive Chef Desyanto Nugroho and inventive cocktails crafted by the expert mixologists at MÉTIS, all cleverly infused with Massenez products, we bonded with the charismatic Bernard Baud (Massenez’s President) and the effortlessly elegant Elodie Naslin (Massenez’s Marketing Director). The dynamic duo, along with almost the entire avant-garde line of Massenez products, took centre stage, shared their knowledge and entertained guests with inspiring stories behind the Massenez brand.

In the 1870s, home distiller Jean-Baptiste Massenez started G.E. Massenez in Urbeis, in the Vallée de Villé, paving the way for generations of master distillers in the region of Alsace in France. His son, Eugène Massenez, mastered an innovative technique in distilling eau-de-vie, first experimenting with wild raspberry and subsequently with pear, plum and cherry with great success. Massenez shot to fame when the Queen of Sweden fell in love with its signature Eau-de-Vie de Framboise Sauvage (wild raspberry brandy) during her visit to Alsace in 1913. The distillery soon became the sole supplier of the court of his Majesty the King of Sweden.

G.E. Massenez has since continued the age-old art of distilling eau-de-vie, utilizing only the best fruits and following traditional methods, yet adopting a modern global outlook. Today, Massenez is present in 110 countries, winning international accolades for its range of fine artisanal eau-de-vie, liqueurs and crèmes. Massenez is also very well-received in the gastronomy trade, being widely used in the finest restaurants by the most discerning professionals worldwide.

Refined, chic and elegant, G.E. Massenez is a timeless symbol of the art of living à la Française.
