Opened for the first time in 2005, Emilie French Restaurant was among the first high-end establishments to adorn Jakarta’s Jalan Senopati area with premium French delicacies. The core concept of the restaurant’s exterior décor is to be charmingly simple, with a deft minimalistic touch. Within the interior you will not find any outspoken piece of art that drains attention, or overly intricate decorative objects. Instead, Emilie finds harmony in simple, homely objects, such as a wood-and-glass shelf showcasing books on French cuisine and culture, as well as a number of wine bottles and other small culinary paraphernalia.
Emile offers modern French cuisine inspired by classic French flair, with an emphasis on flavour and simplicity. To maintain such a meticulous level of authenticity, Emilie uses exactly the same ingredients as were meant for their cuisine. As such, the food available at Emilie follows a very strict seasonal availability, giving a distinct sense of exclusivity.
We were given the privilege of enjoying some of Emilie’s finest dishes, one of them being Les Champignons—poached hen’s egg with seasonal mushroom and cèpes puree. First of all, the seasonal mushroom is already an elevated delicacy on its own. Add to it the tasty combination of the smooth-textured cèpes puree and beautifully cooked poached egg and what you get is a deep culinary trip to Bordeaux.
The Le Confit de Canard tells a different story. A confit of duck leg with seasonal mushrooms, penne and garlic foam, this main course dish takes the classic confit technique and elevates it with a presentation of pasta and imported seasonal mushroom. The resulting taste has components that balance each other out—the rich duck cooked in fat was perfectly tender and full without being overpowering, thanks to the herby notes from the mushrooms.
With over 500 fine wine labels presented on their very own digital app for your browsing and tasting enjoyment, Emilie provides a premium wine experience to be savoured with the food, or sipped slowly in the sophisticated second floor Le Bar. Emilie has been a recipient of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence from 2007 to 2012, and the Best of Best Award of Excellence since 2013.
