SugarSand

SugarSand

Strategically located alongside Mesari Beach, SugarSand is a two-level day club that caters to the whole family. With its striking, modern exterior and unique interior design, it is a feast for the senses and the soul.

For first timers, SugarSand is a beachside bar and restaurant, but it’s so much more than that. Stepping into the venue, guests will appreciate the sleek décor adorned with bold-coloured artwork framing the refreshing swimming pool, just in front of the buzzing Mesari Beach. However, what they might not know is that the exterior is inspired by a traditional Balinese jukung fishing boat, and it shows SugarSand’s intention to highlight the connection with the surrounding land and sea in the overall concept, mirroring the hotel’s concept to honour the locality of the neighbourhood.

The kitchen is led by SugarSand’s new Japanese Specialty Chef Syamsul Rizal, who honed his culinary skills working in the US, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Morocco, with stints at Miami’s exclusive Nobu and Dubai’s famous Zuma. With his approach to contemporary Japanese cuisine, diners can expect an Izakaya-style menu, with a robata grill as the main focus.

Gindara Miso

On the menu, locally sourced ingredients play a pivotal role to ensure freshness is top priority. Try the crispy kiwami beef accompanied by purple sweet potato and sweet ginger soy. In the sushi and sashimi section, the salmon avocado roll and crab salad are surely not to be missed. Meanwhile, the chef’s signature gindara miso features saikyo marination, charred baby kailan, eryngii mushroom and yuzu miso.

Overlooking the glistening blue ocean, the restaurant is also a great spot to enjoy Japanese-inspired libations. Cocktails such as Hanami and Aojiru are great choices while watching the famed sunset over the horizon.
