Line-Caught Wild Octopus

Comfort food with a twist isn’t the only thing on offer at the new Clay Craft restaurant; it also offers an impressive dining experience.

These days, going out to dine is not merely about eating a good meal, it’s also about the experience. To present an unforgettable dining experience, details like a mesmerising ambience, atmospheric music, stunning vistas and basically great ideas or concepts really make all the difference. That’s where Clay Craft comes in.

Part of the newly opened Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa, the all-day dining restaurant really lives up to its name. The restaurant was born out of the concept of presenting a dining destination that revolves around a clay studio. In fact, the clay studio is the charming pièce de résistance set in the middle of the lively venue. Shelves of ceramic plates and tableware surround a genuine clay studio where you can get your hands into the art of pottery, should you choose. Some of these plates and mugs are actually used at Clay Craft, while for a unique and somewhat tranquil vibe, you can even dine at one of the communal tables inside the studio.

In addition to this distinctive focal point, the restaurant also has an open kitchen placed amidst the dining area, omitting the wall between the creative chefs and the diners, making the whole scene even more vibrant.

Manjari Chocolate Textures

At such a young age, Clay Craft is already popular among diners, especially for its inspired breakfast buffet, with dishes that combine a local touch with the much loved classic dishes – the babi guling eggs Benedict is simply scrumptious. That being said, the restaurant is a great destination at any time of the day.

The Light Bites section is perfect for sharing-style quality meal time with a group. The babi guling soft buns and crispy soft shell crab soft buns are simple and tasty. Go a little heartier with dishes like the lush babi kecap, build-your-own grilled cheese melts where you can handpick the cheese, the meat and the condiments, or the Uluwatu burger with its 200g black Angus beef patty.

The big kahuna of Clay Craft, however, is the Babi Bali Asli. The spare ribs of Bali’s heritage black pig are braised in traditional babi guling spices, served with sambal-grilled corn, stir-fried water spinach and chilli garlic potatoes. The dish comes out in a big wok and is perfect for two, but of course if you want to have it all to yourself, no one’s going to judge. Putting a nice bow on this dramatic dish is the headphones and music player lent to the diner. The idea is to let you concentrate on the dish instead of the people and commotion around you. The song? Appropriately some cheeky song about spare ribs.

It is proudly quirky, and that’s how Clay Craft wants to be. Add to that the soothing, elevated view of the hotel’s infinity swimming pool and the rest of the neighbourhood, and you have a culinary getaway to remember.
