For over 50 years, the Bogle family has crafted remarkable wines in the quiet agricultural community of Clarksburg. Their story celebrates six generations of sustainable farming, deeply rooted in a love for the land and a heartfelt dedication to their local neighbours.
For the Bogle family, farming has always come first. As sixth-generation farmers and third-generation winemakers, they have built a reputation founded on respect for the land, careful stewardship, and a commitment to producing wines of consistent quality. Their story began in 1968 when the family’s grandfather planted the area’s first wine grapes in Clarksburg. More than five decades later, that dedication continues shaping every bottle. Dense clay soils combined with the cooling influence of the Sacramento River Delta create ideal conditions for growing expressive fruit and provide the foundation for Bogle’s estate vineyards.
But the family’s philosophy goes further afield. Introduced in 2019, the Bogle Gives Back initiative aids local communities, regional projects, employee wellbeing, and environmental programmes. More than 150 people work across the Clarksburg winery, Home Ranch tasting room, and sales teams, making a safe and rewarding workplace essential to the business. Looking after both people and place remains central to the Bogle approach.
Sustainability is incorporated into every stage of production. Bogle adopted the California Rules for Sustainability programme in 2009 and now works closely with long-term grower partners across The Golden State, encouraging environmentally friendly farming through sustainability standards.
These efforts manifest themselves in different ways. A recirculation system allows tank and barrel cleaning water to be reused several times before being filtered for vineyard irrigation. Solar panels supply much of the winery’s electricity, while green building materials, electric vehicle charging stations, and energy-conscious equipment reduce its environmental footprint. In 2022, the winery introduced lighter glass bottles that cut packaging weight by 10 per cent.
Still, it never comes at the cost of quality. If anything, this commitment further clarifies the flavour of each pour, reflected throughout Bogle’s white wine collection. The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc offers lively citrus, key lime, white pepper, and green Bartlett pear. Produced from mature Clarksburg vines, the 2025 Chenin Blanc reveals notes of honeysuckle, melon, and yellow apple, finished with crisp minerality. The 2024 Chardonnay gains added texture through dual fermentation, balancing fresh green apple with gentle hints of toasted brioche.
The red wine range highlights fruit sourced from carefully selected vineyards across California. The 2023 Pinot Noir presents red cherry, dried raspberry, and rose petals, with subtle forest floor notes adding complexity. The 2023 Merlot delivers Bing cherry, wild raspberry, and vanilla bean, complemented by sweet baking spices. Those desiring a fuller style will appreciate the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon, layered with black cherry, mint bush, juniper berry, and red cassis.
Among the family’s signature wines, the 2023 Old Vine Zinfandel draws fruit from heritage vineyards in Lodi and Amador County, producing concentrated flavours of forest berries, wild juniper, and sour cherry, followed by hints of toasted coconut. The 2023 Petite Sirah completes the collection with rich notes of boysenberry, dried lavender, tobacco, and mocha.
Visitors can experience the Bogle story firsthand at the Home Ranch in Clarksburg. Guided tastings take place on the outdoor deck, where guests can create their own wine flight or choose from selected options, with an optional charcuterie box available when booking. Throughout the experience, the team shares the Bogle family’s history in the Sacramento Delta with the tales behind each wine. Afterwards, guests are welcome to relax on the grounds with their favourite glass while taking in the vineyard surroundings.
