Keeping it Natural

With a tranquil tropical setting, Maya Ubud Resort & Spa’s River Café keeps things natural with its thoughtful and nutritious conscious cuisine.

Secreted deep within The Maya Ubud Resort & Spa and nestled amidst the tropical greenery above the boulders and waters of the swirling and sweeping Petanu River, discover River Café, where thoughtful, natural and nutritious cuisine is the order of the day.

Using premium locally sourced produce, along with fresh herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables from the resort’s extensive kitchen garden, River Café is a proud supporter of the slow food movement. The restaurant specialises in seasonal, vegetarian, gluten-free and wheat-free alternatives, as well as presenting a host of exquisitely presented and protein-packed mains like the crispy skin salmon fillet. This is backed by a selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers and inspired health-conscious beverages.

Adding an air of adventure, the restaurant is accessed via the same guest elevator that leads to the spa and the breath-taking infinity pool. Ensconced in the iconic natural beauty of Bali, River Café offers guests the choice of terrace or under cover patio-style tables.

The menu is extensive and whilst the focus is upon health and well-being, the main menu features traditional comfort food like steak and rocket sandwich, pizza and a collection of hot stone favourites, including Angus sirloin steak and deep-sea tuna with sea scallops.

From the conscious cuisine menu, choose dishes like Quinoa Power Salad packed with grilled haloumi and roast vegetables and topped with a tomato and lemon dressing. For something with a bite, try the chilli flake snapper fillet served with pineapple salsa on a bed of quinoa salad.

For those who want to go local, try the signature River Gado-Gado, a traditional Indonesian dish of blanched vegetables, tofu, tomato and quail eggs served with a rich cashew nut sauce.

Hot Stone Side Salad

Healthy desserts and cakes? The River Café has that covered too. Explore delights like passion fruit semi freddo and raw lemon cheesecake. For a more traditional sweet, check out the chocolate layer cake or the rich espresso tiramisu.

The bar offers everything from smoothies and martinis to coffee and mojitos. For the health-conscious, however, the selection of signature cold press living juices is sure to impress. Choose from drinks like wheatgrass, Aromatic Green Light, Detox or a real favourite, Maya mint tea – a refreshing Chinese green tea with mint leaves and honey. The locally inspired, traditional health drink Petanu Jamu Tonic combines local tangerine, honey, lime, turmeric and cinnamon to cleanse and refresh and is said to have anti-cancer properties.

Open from 10am until 9pm and set above the river and the resort’s beautiful infinity pool, River Café offers a relaxed and serene tropical setting; one that is in total harmony with its beautiful environment. With an array of conscious cuisine and wonderful service, it is the perfect place to nurture both body and mind.
