Following its first outing in Ubud, Norii Japanese Restaurant arrives in Seminyak, bringing a new menu and ambience without losing its characterful contemporary approach to Japanese cuisine.
Norii Japanese Restaurant Seminyak makes a compelling case for itself. Though an offshoot of the first location in Ubud, this address brings a different experience. Tucked in a cosy corner of Ajowa Resort Seminyak’s lobby, the interiors are minimalistically sleek, with decorative timber grids for a touch of zen. Seating only 34 at a time, each meal feels intimate and unfussy, bathed in sunlight by day and plunged into a sultry moodiness post-sundown.
The menu still features Ubud favourites, such as fried rice, ramen, and yakitori options (now arriving on smoky shichirin grills), but it would be remiss to overlook the new introductions. The Chuka Wakame Salad offers a refreshing start, the Aburi Scallop and Black Cod Yuzu Butter add some gusto to the table, while the pear-cradled yoghurt mousse Tsuki No Hana closes on a sweet note. Drinks are equally fun: case in point, the Teapresso Martini, a hojicha-infused twist on the classic coffee-based cocktail.

Expect a slight interruption mid-meal; it would be one’s welcome surprise. Watch the live robatayaki counter burst in flames for a quick fire show, infusing the space with a little warmth and theatricality, and you’d soon realise despite its familiar face, you would still find something unexpected.
