Pichaya Soontornyanakij

A media personality with a slew of accolades, Chef Pichaya Soontornyanakij, better known as Chef Pam, has just been voted Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2024 at the highly regarded Asia’s Best 50 Restaurants. The highly sought-after award offers a chance to honour women in gastronomy and was chosen by 318 members of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy.

Chef Pam trained at the Culinary Institute of America and Le Cordon Bleu before working for a while at the renowned Jean-Georges in New York. She returned to her roots with Potong, which offers a culinary reflection of her Thai-Chinese heritage. Located in an ancestral building that was formerly used as a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, Potong expertly combines traditional and cutting-edge cooking methods to create a tasting menu that features 20 mouthwatering dishes that represent her five-element philosophy of Salt, Acid, Spice, Texture and Maillard Reaction.

She has swiftly emerged as one of the country’s most influential chefs, and Potong stands as one of the city’s most lauded gastronomic establishments. Chef Pam’s passion goes beyond her skill in the kitchen; she has played a significant role in Gastronauts Asia, Women in Gastronomy, and most recently, she launched a scholarship and internship programme called Women-for-Women, which is intended for financially disadvantaged female students residing in rural areas.
