Moves That Mesmerise
Valentina Pakenko’s life has always been shaped by movement, whether in the sense of being a performer on stage or a nomad who has called different countries home. All those experiences culminated in her fluidity and flexibility as a Bali-based model today.
: What inspired you to pursue a career in modelling?
A: I have always been interested in exploring myself through different looks and expressing emotions. Over time, as I took on different roles throughout my life, I started to see myself differently and began to notice my femininity and beauty. Modelling helped me see myself from an outside perspective, which gradually builds confidence.
: How does your background in performing influence the way you approach modelling?
A: Before becoming a model, I was a backup vocalist for a well-known Ukrainian artist, which entails performing on stage and shooting music videos. I also have a strong dance background, having trained and performed in different styles for many years. These things help me better understand my body, allowing me to feel more comfortable in front of the camera and express my emotions more freely.
: How would you describe your sense of style?
A: It changes depending on my mood. I’m naturally drawn to a blend of femininity and edginess, such as combining a softer aesthetic with bold accessories. However, I’m always open to experimenting, especially with creative photo shoot concepts.
: Moving from Europe to Indonesia, how has your style changed?
A: I am originally from the Ural region of Bashkortostan, Russia, before later moving to Ukraine. The climate there is much colder, so my style naturally leaned toward layering and heavier clothing. Moving to Bali prompted a transition to something much lighter. I began wearing more minimal looks with lighter fabrics and simpler silhouettes. My style became more relaxed, natural, and free.
