One of the island’s most famed beachfront destinations introduces a refreshed spread of Mediterranean delicacies that have been given an Asian twist, serving new rounds of excitement for its diners.
Starfish Bloo at W Bali – Seminyak has long been one of the island’s most well-known spots for Sunday brunches by the rolling waves. Though the tropical atmosphere and delicious food are its biggest appeals, the restaurant always finds ways to keep things exciting: collaborations with a variety of established players in Bali’s dining scene, inventive themed specials, and most recently, a brand-new à la carte menu with creations that tantalise the taste buds.
This latest refresh envisions Mediterranean classics through a distinctly Asian lens. Many dishes exemplify this: creamy stracciatella drizzled with Sichuan-style chilli oil and crispy fried shallots, red snapper ceviche swimming in a refreshing Limeño marinade, grilled octopus coated in gochujang glaze. Even desserts reflect this essence, like the Tiramiso, a riff on the tiramisu that trades the classic coffee-and-chocolate flavour profile for one built on miso, hojicha, and black sesame.
Still, being anchored by the bounty of the Balinese coastal tropicality, the menu carries a distinctly island touch. It still features succulent seafoods, such as Lombok oysters, Hokkaido scallops, rock lobsters, and Papuan prawns served as a delicate sashimi. One of the highlights is the sizable Butterfly Prawns, grilled to bouncy perfection and best served drowning in the Dover lime jus.
Seafood-averse diners still have more than enough selections to choose from. The Black Pepper Smash Burger is one of the best bets, sitting atop some black pepper mayonnaise that doubles down on the floral spice. The unbelievably tender Braised Beef Cheek is another worthy option, served alongside an Asian-style slaw and fried mantou. As for vegetarians, they can rely on the breaded Eggplant Goreng, offering a fun mix of textures and flavours.
End on an indulgent note with desserts that are sure to satiate even the sweetest tooths. The Exotic Pavlova is a delicate medley of crunchy meringue, mango-passionfruit sorbet, and a touch of kaffir lime and coconut. The Rice Milk, meanwhile, offers mouthfuls enriched by white chocolate ganache, salted caramel, and peanut crumbs. Even health-conscious patrons can still enjoy the dessert section, with choices like a seasonal fruit platter, refreshing tropical-flavoured sorbets, and the Frozen Bowl of açai or coconut yoghurt rounding out the menu.
