From its inception, the vision for The Crown by Kirk Westaway was unapologetically ambitious. Sitting on the 22nd floor of Fairmont Jakarta, The Crown presents a contemporary interpretation of Western dining, shaped by the sensibilities of the restaurant’s two MICHELIN-starred namesake.
Drawing inspiration from the standards embodied by the MICHELIN Guide, the team sought to bring a level of excellence that resonates internationally. While remaining firmly established in Jakarta’s dynamic dining scene, this vision is helmed by Kirk Westaway, a seasoned culinary professional with a footprint spanning cities such as Singapore and Vietnam, whose approach to modern British cuisine balances technical clarity with warmth.
Inside, the space reveals a thoughtful interplay between grandeur and playfulness. A soaring ceiling lends an immediate sense of openness, while subtle design touches soften the formality. Winston the sheep, a nod to Kirk’s Devon roots, introduces a sense of character, joined by whimsical artworks that lend the room a lighter, more relaxed tone.
The aim was simple yet exacting: to create one of the finest dining destinations in the city. The restaurant offers a refined tasting menu built around premium ingredients, while its adjoining terrace provides a more relaxed counterpoint, where cocktails, wines, and light bites are enjoyed against sweeping views of Jakarta, particularly at sunset.
The menu moves from familiar comforts such as Fish and Chips to more expressive plates like Hay Smoked Salmon and Curried Scallop. It concludes with playful desserts such as Strawberry & Champagne, supported by a carefully curated selection of cocktails and wines. Beyond the dining room, The Crown Terrace offers an inviting alternative with its open-air setting and relaxed atmosphere, making it suitable for both casual gatherings and slower evenings as a natural extension of the restaurant’s ethos.
