When Mint & Basil first hit Hong Kong it caused an unstoppable tsunami of adulation. A casual yet smart eatery offering classic Thai and Vietnamese fare, like pad Thai, tom yum and pho bo, it pressed all the right buttons with the city’s hipsters and Thai-loving gastronomes.
Still riding the wave, Mint & Basil has now opened its second outlet, on the Tung Chung waterfront. The menu is much the same but with a few additions, like lamb shank curry, pan-seared scallops with lychee salad, and our favourite funky fish maw soup.
The interior is comfortable and has a street market theme centred round an expansive wall mural. There’s a spacious pet-friendly outdoor area too, an ideal space to enjoy a Thai experience with friends or even Fido, the family pet.
