Juna Juns

Professional Bartender at Unfinished Project

E: What are your responsibilities?

A: As a bartender in a speakeasy bar, my role covers just about everything. Beyond making drinks, I handle reservations, work the till and even clean the restrooms. My main aim is to make everyone who walks through the door feel genuinely welcome, as if they were visiting a close friend’s home.

E: What makes a typical day?

A: I always start with a prayer, then sketch out my plans for the day so I know where I’m heading. A simple sandwich for breakfast gives me the energy I need, and once I’m at work, I’m ready for the rush and all the busyness that comes with it.

E: Your best attribute?

A: I’d say I’m someone who gets along easily with people and is a good listener. Friends and guests often confide in me, and I think that’s important in this line of work. To succeed in a bar, you need to care about others, treating people the way you’d want to be treated yourself. I believe kindness always comes back to you.

E: Team player or team leader?

A: I prefer being a leader. I’m full of ideas and enjoy finding ways to make things run more smoothly. When I’m just part of a team, it can be difficult if the leader only points out problems without offering solutions.

E: Who has been the most influential figure in your career so far?

A: Without a doubt, Jakob Manurung. We worked together at Spill and Still, and he gave me invaluable knowledge and guidance. He never doubted me and always believed I could achieve more. He’s the best bar manager I’ve ever known.

E: Name one special thing about your bar.

A: Unfinished Project is more than just a bar, it’s an experience. Guests are welcome to bring their own food, and they can even create their own drinks with our guidance. It’s not just about service, it’s about sharing something unique together.

E: How do you unwind?

A: For me, it’s as simple as playing games or enjoying shisha with a beer. If I have more time, I love heading to the mountains or the beach. Camping out, sitting under the stars, that clears my head completely and takes me away from the daily grind.

E: Dead or alive, who would you like to take out to dinner?

A: My mother. I’d take her somewhere she loves, just the two of us. My success wouldn’t have been possible without her prayers and support, and I want her to enjoy the results of that as much as I do.
