Starfish Bloo hosts one of the most popular Sunday brunches on the island of Bali. Fully booked every week, if you arrive as the restaurant is opening at noon, you are likely to be greeted by the sound of Prosecco corks popping and glasses of pink or white fizz being passed around.

Entering the restaurant, it seems like everywhere you turn there are colourful food displays just waiting to be plundered. Piles of crab, king prawns, lobsters and oysters spill over a mountain of ice, while just opposite is an almost dizzyingly bright dessert counter with chocolate dipped strawberries, neon-coloured lollipop-style cakes on a stick, towering lush gateaux and piles of sweets. A personal favourite is the chocolate covered honeycomb, which is also excellent chopped into the rich, creamy ice-cream.
Starfish Bloo is a feast for the eyes, with its food and Indian Ocean views, as well as for the ears, with the lively hotel-curated music and the buzz of conversation and laughter as families and friends indulge in this decadent spread that is renowned across Bali.

Waves crash on the nearby beach and hotel guests sunbathe and play in the pool, while diners pick out their favourite indulgences from the mountains of food on offer.

Perhaps you could start with some sushi, Peking duck, or a steamed bun, before heading over to the barbecue to put in an order for grilled meat, sausage or seafood. While you’re at the grill, pick up a hot roti canai with curry, or do the Sunday lunch thing of roast lamb with all the trimmings. Local suckling pig, chicken shawarma and a menu offering food cooked à la minute, such as steak and eggs, smoked salmon and mascarpone omelette, to prawn curry and even foie gras, are just a few of the tasty treats available.

The selections of salads, fruit and breads, muffins and pastries are plentiful and the basic brunch package includes your welcome bubbles, soft drinks and juices. Free-flow drinks packages offer Prosecco, wine, cocktails, beer and soft drinks, while the food and champagne package suits those celebrating their day.

We love to spend a few hours on a Sunday sipping on bubbly and taking in the vibrant, yet somehow peaceful, ambience at W Retreat while watching the sunshine sparkle on the waves as they crash onto the shore.
