Chef Marno returns to Qunci Villas Resort for Lombok’s MotoGP week, cooking seven regional takes on Indonesia’s favourite fried rice from 9-11 October 2026. The engines may roar at Mandalika, but the more satisfying laps happen at the table.
Every Indonesian has an opinion on nasi goreng, and most of them begin in a parent’s kitchen. Cooking seven versions in one weekend for race fans from home and abroad takes some nerve. Fortunately, Chef Marno has the confidence for it, and three decades of experience to back it up. He returns to Qunci Villas Resort in Mangsit, Senggigi, for “Chef in the Wild: Seven Regions, Seven Nasi Goreng, One Indonesian Journey”, timed for Lombok’s MotoGP week.
The owner of Planet Nasi Goreng and De’Kajoetangan 1880 cooks at Quali Indonesian & Asian Dining from Friday to Sunday, 9–11 October 2026. It is his second visit, following a well-received first edition.
The menu moves from west to east. West Sumatra opens with Nasi Goreng Minang, topped with crispy beef in a signature sauce. Java accounts for most of the list. Nasi Goreng Gahar, roughly “fierce” in Indonesian, pairs beef rendang with cassava leaves. Nasi Goreng Katersnan adds beef ribs and serundeng, a savoury toasted coconut, while Nasi Goreng Tanduraga brings in tandoori chicken. The chef’s namesake plate stays Javanese, topped with grilled prawns and finished with crispy egg and tofu. Bali ends the line-up with grilled fish and sambal Bali in Nasi Goreng Dewata, then spiced goat in Nasi Goreng Kambing.
Each plate also comes with its backstory. Chef Marno cooks live at a demo, while a storytelling session explains why each region seasons the way it does. A tasting menu then covers the whole map in one sitting.
À la carte plates start from Rp250,000++. For two, Chef Marno’s Signature Sharing Menu costs Rp950,000++. It opens with perkedel jagung, or corn fritters, before Nasi Goreng Chef Ganteng and salted-egg prawns. Tongseng kambing, a Javanese goat stew, follows with capcai, the stir-fried vegetable dish. Pisang goreng with coconut ice cream ends the meal.
“MotoGP week is a special moment,” says the Qunci Villas management team, “and we want to celebrate it by presenting the best of Indonesia’s culinary heritage to guests visiting Lombok.”
Seats are limited, so book early through the Quali or Qunci Villas reservations team. Down at Mandalika, the fastest lap wins. In Mangsit, the win goes to whoever makes it through all seven nasi goreng.
