A gastronomic treat for foodies, Orient8 at Hotel Mulia Jakarta serves a set menu of enticing French dishes at reasonable prices.
Stepping into Orient8 at Hotel Mulia Jakarta is like walking into a world of fantasy that takes your breath away. Passing through the elegant white door, you are greeted by a dramatic hallway in black and white, adorned with tall pillars that remind you of imperial France. Your eyes will be drawn to the tall ceilings and a giant picture of Napoleon quirkily posing with glasses and chopsticks. Beautifully hand-carved chairs, Chinoiserie patterns and rows of chandeliers are just some of the unique visual points that represent the rich blend of cultures in Orient8.
Orient8 presents a stylish culinary banquet by marrying the exotic flavours of French and pan-Asian cuisine. In the kitchen, French Executive Chef Florian Lamelot has been whipping up various delicious flavours for the past 10 years. He explains that he presents authentic flavours that can be found in French homes, presented in a way that spoils the eyes. As a chef who is open to various culinary techniques and innovations, it’s no wonder that his cooking is like a work of art.
Chef Florian’s mouth-watering Napoleon set menu captivates the senses as though dining with the great emperor himself, and starts with Cremeux de Langoustine Royal sur Cheveux d’Ange, a soft, cold pasta dish served with grilled scampi and oscietra caviar. The Filet de Truite Cuisson au Miel boasts a unique cooking technique; instead of baking, the chef uses a gentle slow-cook technique, pouring organic beeswax over the rainbow trout and leaving it to stand for 10 minutes while the fish cooks directly at the diner’s table. The presentation truly is amazing.
The main course, Faux Filet de Boeuf Mature 28 Jours, gives diners the opportunity to sample dry-aged Angus sirloin served with butternut squash and king oyster mushroom. For dessert, La Pomme is not only tasty but is also pretty. The perfect dessert for apple lovers, it is filled with warm apple and blueberry jam. Named for the French word for apple, you tap the candy shell to break it before eating. Finally, Le Souffle au Grand Marnier is served with French classics, such as madeleines and macarons.
With music from French musician Christine and the Queens playing in the background, Orient8 is a charming French-Asian culinary experience.
