Thailand’s bustling capital city has a new reason to celebrate, with the opening of the region’s most unique tippling venue.
Nestled in Bangkok’s vibrant neighbourhood of Phrom Phong, F*nkytown emerges as the Sarnies Group’s first cocktail bar concept where sustainable techniques and unique flavours combine. Located in the same establishment that contains the successful cafe, Sarnies Sukhumvit, F*nkytown is set on elevating the bar scene in Bangkok and expanding on Sarnies Group’s position in the local dining game. Following suit, offerings of delightful gastronomy look to compliment the destination’s signature concoctions.
Under the direction of Group Beverage Manager Pae Ketumarn, who was previously employed by The SG Club in Tokyo and Sober Company in Shanghai, the beverage programme provides a funkiness scale ranging from 1 to 5. Guests can enjoy inventive flavours like the Tokyo Banana (funk level: 2), Caesar Salad (funk level: 4) and Som Tum (funk level: 5). A variety of twisted classics are available to accommodate cocktail enthusiasts, including twisted versions of popular drinks like the Long Island Thai Tea paired with yuzu cola, the Cold Brew Martini infused with coffee kombucha, and the Sundae Old-Fashioned with kinako and black sugar.
Chef Theo Tomasa, formerly of The Connaught and Annabel’s in London, collaborates with Group Head Chef Luqman Hakim Hamzah in the kitchen to curate an array of funky creations. The menu, guided by a similar scale to the drinks, offers bite-sized snacks like Hamachi Crudo tart, crispy pig ears with fermented durian sambal and savoury bone marrow Canele. Larger plates include jasmine wagyu, made from crossbred Thai-Tajima cows. Further, opt for the ‘Feed Me’ menu, showcasing F*nkytown’s best of the month at THB980 per person, comprising three bites, three shareable plates and a dessert.
Fnkytown lives up to its name by playing the funkiest music, including funk, soul, R&B and 80s disco, with Bangkok’s top vinyl and digital DJs performing Thursdays to Saturdays.
