Bar Captain of Dagoan Lounge at Hotel Indigo Bandung Dago Pakar

E: What are your responsibilities?
A: I’m responsible for managing two bars, Joempa Restaurant and Dagoan Lounge, although my primary focus on Dagoan Lounge. My role involves ensuring smooth operations, serving exceptional cocktails and creating a welcoming atmosphere with good vibes. In Sundanese, Dagoan means “to wait”, which aligns perfectly with our concept. Located in the lobby, it’s an ideal spot for guests to relax while waiting to check in. They can unwind, enjoy a cocktail and soak in the ambience.

E: What does a typical day look like for you?
A: Every day is enjoyable, though quite busy, as the hotel usually has high occupancy. Meeting guests, engaging with diverse people and hearing new perspectives make the job exciting. My routine starts around lunchtime since the bar opens at midday. We begin preparations at 11am and open for lunch service at 12pm. During lunch, we serve meals alongside non-alcoholic cocktails. By the afternoon, we shift to evening cocktail service, which continues into the after-party hours. As the night progresses, we serve alcoholic beverages until late.

E: What are your best attributes?
A: I believe my ability to create a great atmosphere is one of my strongest qualities. Whether it’s crafting well-balanced cocktails or setting the right mood, I always aim to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience.

E: Are you more of a team player or a team leader?
A: It really depends on the situation. When things get busy, I step in as a team player, helping with cocktail preparation, serving drinks and ensuring everything runs smoothly alongside my colleagues. At the same time, I also take on a leadership role when needed. Managing the team, aligning everyone with the same vision and maintaining high service standards are equally important.

E: How do you unwind?
A: For me, unwinding means spending quality time with family or heading out for a change of scenery. It’s the perfect way to reset after a long day. When I need a solo escape, gaming helps me switch off and recharge.

E: If you could take anyone out to dinner, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: I would choose my parents, especially my mother. Many of the cocktails I create are inspired by her stories and the dishes she used to make. Whether it’s a childhood dessert or a homemade meal. In a way, it’s my method of bringing the taste of home into my work. I’ve even created cocktails inspired by Bugis cake and chicken soup. At the heart of it all, my work is rooted in family.
