Described as a “Lifestyle Resort in The Sky”, Jakarta’s sky-high drinking and dining concept is establishing itself an iconic landmark for the buzzing capital city.

Aptly named, and located high up on the 56th floor of the BCA Tower, SKYE Bistro & Lounge provides a unique and exciting atmosphere for a quick getaway from Jakarta’s bustling streets, some 230 metres below. Tempting food and lifestyle enthusiasts from across the archipelago, this high-flying hangout spot serves up world-class cocktails and gourmet bites in a contemporary yet unassuming setting, securing its status as the capital’s sanctuary in the sky.

The main attraction is undoubtedly the one-of-a-kind panoramic views of the city’s skyline, viewable from both the indoor all-day-dining restaurant and the outdoor al-fresco lounge area. “Bistro by day, lounge by night”, SKYE’s outdoor area offers the perfect spot to sip on sumptuous cocktails and gaze at the sweeping horizon beyond. Look out for the Shaman, SKYE’s Signature cocktail fusing chunks of pomegranate and starfruit, blended with crushed ice, Absolut Citron and mint. Or for a cocktail as eye-catching as the surrounding scenery, try the vibrant pink Dragon Tattoo; a blend of Jose Cuervo, triple sec, dragon fruit syrup, fresh lemon juice and dragon fruit wedges.

The stylish indoor restaurant serves international ethnic cuisine focusing mostly on Hispanic food, with an integration of Middle-Eastern and Asian delicacies. The menu was created by Australian Executive Chef, Aldo Volpi, a culinary prodigy coming out of 2-chef’s hat Bentley Restaurant & Bar in Sydney. The slow braised wagyu beef cheek with rawon flavours and celeariac is testament to Chef Volpi’s creativity and expertise, providing a unique twist to the usual East and West fare. For lighter bites, try his selection of naughty nibbles and delectable appetizers, or sample a taste of Japanese cuisine at the full-length sushi counter – a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.

Influenced by Southern-American décor, natural woods and textural stones create an impressive contemporary design throughout the restaurant, with timber panelled walls and ceilings, raw concrete beams and pillars, and the widespread use of stonework on interiors. Splashes of vibrant colour against soft furnishings add highlights to the natural tones of the wood and stone, imbuing a sense of rustic chic. Furniture is modern, clean and uncomplicated, yet emanating a feel of opulence. Guests can enjoy intimate yet open areas to mingle with savvy socialites, whilst inviting pillow-clad sofas offer a leisurely retreat to unwind in the company of loved ones. SKYE could well be the beginning of a new era in the Jakarta restaurant and bar scene, finally introducing the city’s residents to the concept of sophisticated, high quality rooftop venues that have become so popular in other leading Asian capitals. SKYE is the latest brainchild of the Ismaya Group, responsible for a number of happening foodie hotspots, including Sushigroove, Social House and Blowfish Kitchen & Bar – just to name a few – so it comes as no surprise that it is this market leader who has introduced the capital to this sky-high trend. (www.ismayagroup.com)
