The Jamu for You

The Jamu for You

Jamu selection & fresh ingredients

Since opening, Selasar Deli at The Apurva Kempinski Bali has become known and cherished for its charming traditional Indonesian ambience and its expansive range of traditional Indonesian F&B offerings, including jamu, Indonesian herbal drinks that are beneficial for your wellbeing.

However, if the current situation means that you unable to go directly to Selasar Deli to fetch the jamu, fret not, because The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s team has shared some insights, and even a simple tutorial on making jamu. Learn how to make kunyit asam – the second most popular jamu after beras kencur – by checking out The Apurva Kempinski Bali’s Instagram (@kempinskibali) and Facebook accounts (facebook.com/kempinskibali).

Turmeric

Sovia, the hotel’s own jamu expert, explained that kunyit asam, which translates as turmeric tamarind, has many benefits, including neutralising toxins, regulating the menstrual cycle and more. The turmeric plays its part as a detoxing agent that can help your liver take a breather, while its high level of antioxidants can help to prevent early ageing and degenerative diseases. The tamarind is a good source of vitamin C, and it can help to reduce weight and cholesterol levels.

Sovia also shared that other kinds of jamu are beneficial, such as the aforementioned beras kencur, sinom and temulawak. Beras kencur, which is made from white rice, ginger, wild ginger, turmeric, palm sugar and pandan water, is a sweet and refreshing option that is good for increasing stamina, treating gastric problems and stimulating the appetite. Additionally, sinom is good for maintaining a healthy liver, gall bladder and stomach, among other things. Last but not least, temulawak can eliminate headaches, nausea, cold symptoms, and treat digestive disorders.
