Within the storied walls of Grand Hotel De Djokja, ROSO Restaurant brings their latest offerings of Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage to Yogyakarta’s esteemed dining tables.
Yogyakarta has long been a city where history and creativity exist in quiet conversation. Now, a new culinary chapter joins that story with the arrival of ROSO Restaurant Yogyakarta at Grand Hotel De Djokja, a landmark that has stood at the heart of the city since 1911.
Proudly inaugurated by Andreas Kahl, General Manager of Grand Hotel De Djokja, the two-day opening on 15 and 16 August 2026 marks a new chapter in the hotel’s enduring legacy and its vision for Yogyakarta’s evolving luxury hospitality scene.
Guided by its philosophy, “The Finest Expression of Indonesian Taste,” ROSO is conceived as more than a dining destination. It is an elegant interpretation of the archipelago’s culinary heritage, where regional flavours, traditional techniques, and cultural narratives are brought to the contemporary table with considered craftsmanship.
The restaurant’s opening was marked by an exclusive seven-course journey, bringing together Chef Ketut Gede Arya Prima Udayana, Chef Komang Kardana, and ROSO Yogyakarta Head Chef Kolibin, under the culinary direction of Philip Walasary, Director of Food & Beverage and Executive Chef of Grand Hotel De Djokja. The collaboration symbolically connects ROSO’s origins in Bali with its newest expression in Yogyakarta.
Across the menu, Indonesia unfolds one course at a time. Tempe dalam Gegurit Rasa transforms a familiar staple into an elegant composition, while North Sumatra’s Naniura introduces a richly spiced interpretation of a treasured Batak tradition. From Bali, butter-poached lobster meets the aromatic complexity of Base Genep, while Sampi Menyat-Nyat celebrates the warmth and depth of Balinese cooking.
Yet the experience extends beyond what is served. Within Grand Hotel De Djokja’s historic setting, ROSO brings together two forms of heritage: the legacy preserved within the building and the culinary traditions carried through generations.
The result is a dining experience that feels distinctly Indonesian, yet unmistakably contemporary. At ROSO Yogyakarta, heritage is not simply preserved. It is given a new setting, a new audience, and a place at the table of modern gastronomy.
