Through its Pop-Up class, BCPS introduces aspiring culinary enthusiasts to its hands-on learning approach while reaffirming its commitment to prepare Indonesia’s future culinary professionals.
It is hard not to recall the time when one realized that cooking could evolve into something more. It may have happened when making a cake, experimenting with a favorite dish from childhood, or even just being in the kitchen for hours. However, the next step for those who want to develop as a chef would be discovering what career path their love of cooking can bring. Bali Culinary Pastry School (BCPS) is hoping to provide such an opportunity through hosting the Pop-Up Class in Jakarta.
Scheduled to run from 26 June to 17 July 2026 in collaboration with KitchenAid Indonesia, this series of workshops includes various short classes dedicated to culinary, pastry, and baking skills. Instead of reproducing the entire curriculum of BCPS, the courses provide the chance to experience the practical approach in education that the school uses as its main principle.
This event is also connected with BCPS’ desire to expand the reach of their programs to the aspirants who are far from Bali. Made Ariani Siswanto, the founder of Bali Culinary Pastry School, said that every opportunity to engage with aspiring culinary enthusiasts outside Bali, including through collaborative learning sessions such as today’s event in Jakarta, reflects our commitment to making professional culinary education more accessible and inspiring future talent across Indonesia.
This desire is happening amid Indonesia’s continued growth in its culinary and hospitality sectors. Modern kitchens have become increasingly demanding when it comes to recruitment, requiring professionals to not just have cooking skills, but also be adaptable and knowledgeable about how a modern kitchen works.
These demands define students’ lives at BCPS’s campus located inside BITDeC One Campus in Pantai Nyanyi, Tabanan, Bali. Most of the lessons conducted at the institution are hands-on, with about 80 per cent of the lessons focused on practicals inside the kitchen.
Learning does not stop once a dish is plated. There is also the running of a pedagogical restaurant of the school by the students to serve guests and develop team-building, communication, and service skills. As the time nears the end of the training period, they run a pop-up restaurant initiative where they manage from conception to completion of the project prior to internship with the top hospitality firms.
Another focus that BCPS gives is international exposure for students. They get exposed through collaboration with institutions and industry partners in France, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, and many other culinary capitals and learn about other working styles and standards in the global hospitality industry.
Since the establishment of the institution in 2016, it has enrolled students from more than 66 cities in Indonesia and 10 other countries, creating a multicultural environment where English is a part of daily learning and professional practice.
“At BCPS, we believe education should go beyond teaching technical skills. It should open doors, build confidence, and prepare young people to contribute meaningfully to an industry that continues to grow, both at home and on the global stage,” added Made Ariani Siswanto.
In addition, it also celebrates BCPS’s 10th anniversary milestone. Throughout the last 10 years, the school has provided education to over 1,000 students and alums who have gone on to make their mark in hotels, high-end restaurants, artisan bakers and even started their own enterprises across Indonesia and beyond.
Applications for intake in July 2026 are open for both the Professional Chef Programme and Career Access Programme, which run for 18 months and 12 months respectively. These programs are meant for prospective chefs, fresh graduates and those who wish to change careers, offering them practical learning along with industry experience.
Those who are taking part in the Jakarta Pop-Up cooking classes get an insight into what it means to study in a professional culinary school and maybe the courage to pursue their passion as a career.
